DODDS, William John Charles "Bill"
It is with sorrow the family of Bill Dodds announce that he passed away on Monday, December 23, 2019 at Fairvern Nursing Home with family at his side in his 79th year.  Beloved husband of Arlene Dodds (nee Sturgess) of 49 years.  Loving father of Scott Dodds (Jennifer White) and Sharlene (Steven) Borden.  Cherished grandfather of Taylor and Tori Dodds, Carys White, Ashley and Owen Bosker, Paul and Emily Borden.  Predeceased by his dear grandaughter Carly Dodds. Survived by his brother Wayne (Theresa) Dodds. Predeceased by his parents Owen and Irene Dodds of Ailsa Craig, Ontario & his sister Dorothy & brother Carl.

Bill spent the 1st few years of his adult life in the US & Canadian Navy, which he spent  travelling by ship to many countries, which he really enjoyed. Anyone who spent time with Bill knew how interesting & intelligent he was.  A lot of his knowledge came from stamp collecting. Bill married Arlene in 1970 in Ontario & started their life together in Alberta, where they had 2 children. Bill spent most of his working life in the pipeline, driving a side boom, which had him travelling all across Canada & the States.  They moved from Calgary to Emsdale, Ontario in 1985, where he found his next love....the bush.  He loved spending time up in the bush cutting wood for their winters heat.  He always told mom; “it’s so peaceful up in the bush”, & that’s where he wanted to be.  He loved to take people on tours of his animals.  He kept all kinds of birds on his 100 acre farm..... all kinds of pheasants, peacocks, ducks, quail, chickens, etc plus he had a stocked trout pond, which he loved to feed & show people.  He loved playing cards, Bingo, Nevada tickets & every lottery you could think of (to moms dislike LOL).  Bill spent the last 5 years in Nursing Homes, FairVern was his home for the last 3 years.  The nurses & staff there treated him like family & showed nothing but love for him.  We are so very thankful for them.  His final hours, I think every staff member came in to say their goodbyes, even some not on shift.

In keeping with Bill's wishes, cremation has taken place.  In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Friends of Fairvern or Parkinson Canada.  Messages of condolence can be left at www.billingsleyfuneralhome.com
