Stuart Campbell McKean

August 9, 1949 — April 30, 2023

Port Sydney, Ontario

Stuart Campbell McKean, 73, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 30, 2023 at Andy’s House, Port Carling, Ontario.

Born on August 9, 1949 in Toronto to the late Campbell and Evelyn (Lynn) McKean, Stuart was a spirted young Scottish boy who always managed to get in himself into trouble. He went on to apprentice as a chef when he was 16 years old at the Royal York Hotel. Upon completion of his Red Seal, he went to work at Banff Springs Hotel and then Syncrude, before returning to Ontario. He started working at Deerhurst Resort in the early eighties, remaining there for the rest of his career as a first cook until he retired in 2013. Stuart was well known for his quirky sense of humour, strong work ethic, and his passion and talent for oil painting. He was a very proud father and grandfather.

He is survived by his loving son Kyle, daughter-in-law Marissa, two granddaughters, Maggie and Sophie, brother Kenneth (Kelly), nephew Ryan (Andrea), two grand nephews and several cousins. He also leaves behind many dear friends from all walks of life.

Special thanks to the hospice nurses at Andy’s House in Port Carling for their kindness and compassion during the last few days of his life.

A celebration of life will be held on May 13, 2023 from 1-5 p.m. at the Port Sydney Community Centre, 607 Muskoka Road 10, Port Sydney. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Stuart's memory to Hospice Muskoka.

“If I’m not in trouble, I’m going to be.”
