HANSON, Roy Edwin

Passed away suddenly at his home in Huntsville on December 27, 2021 at the age of 85.  Born on July 25, 1936 in Toronto to parents Fritz and Martha (nee Fors) Hanson who immigrated from Finland to Canada, settling in Windsor before moving to Toronto where Roy was born. Roy married Barbara Anne Leyland on September 7, 1957 in North York, Ontario.  Roy and Barbara lived in Toronto where Roy worked in the engineering department of the Toronto Transit Commission for 31 years before retiring in Muskoka.  His hobbies and interests include playing the viola which was hand carved by his father.  His musical interest led him to becoming a choir director of his church for 25 years.  He also formed a musical group who performed in many churches and conferences.  Roy was a gifted wood carver, winning competitions in Ontario.  Each married grandchild now has a hand carved bride and groom.

Roy will be dearly missed and never forgotten by his beloved wife Barbara Anne.  Cherished father of Paul (Heather) Hanson, Ruth-Anne (Paul) Simpson and Lisa (Mark) Nash.  Proud grandfather of Peter (Amanda) Simpson, Stephen (Grace) Simpson, Laura Simpson, Michael (Jaclyn) Nash, Adam Nash, Noah (Hannah) Hanson and Leah Hanson.  Great-grandfather of Levi, Jonah, Luke, Rowan and Rhys.  Dear brother of Gladys (Sid) Broomfield and Bob (Barb) Leyland.  Roy will be also missed by his many nieces and nephews both near and far.
