McEOWN, Ray Louis
Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at Muskoka Landing Long Term Care in Huntsville at the age of 94. Ray was born on February 18, 1929, to parents Albert & Myrtle (nee Leatherdale) McEown in Orillia, Ontario. Beloved husband of the late Jean (nee Farley) McEown who passed away on April 5, 1992. He will be dearly missed by his longtime companion, Verta MacDonald. Loving father of Karen (Charles) Bullock and Patti (Clayton) Reid. Proud grandfather of Tara Bullock, Nicole (Kristin) Reid, Jaime (Andre) Prud'homme and the late Matthew Bullock. Cherished great-grandfather of Ethan, Bryden, Isabella, Mylei, Kaylynn, Candice, Taylor, Liam, Charlie and Madeline. Ray will be dearly missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends both near and far. Predeceased by his siblings Audrey Wood and Robert McEown.
Ray worked for Bell Canada and would retire after 36 years of service. In his retirement, he enjoyed curling, swimming and was an avid golfer well into his 80's. Ray was fortunate enough to be able to travel extensively in his retirement years with his longtime companion and dear friend, Verta, visiting far off places. In his younger years, he played baseball for the Huntsville Merchants. An active member of the Royal Canadian Legion in Huntsville where he played darts and socialized with his many friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at the Royal Canadian Legion in Huntsville from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, MS Society or Hospice Huntsville.
