b. October 1, 1955

TANNER, Paul Franklin

The death occurred on Sunday, October 21, 2018.

Born in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia in 1935. He was predeceased by his parents Lottie and Letson and by his brother Charles (Audrey) and his sister Vivian (Lauchlin MacDonald). Paul left home at an early age and traveled west to Alberta before settling in Toronto where he worked for 7 years at the Downsview Air Force Depot. He met his wife Rene (Holinshead) while she was in Toronto attending business school, they were married October 1, 1955.

Paul leaves his wife of 63 years Rene, daughters Patti (Richard Keay), Donna (Barry Hineman) and Kate (John Shaw) along with 7 grandchildren, Kristopher (Nancy Grant) and Shannan (Don McEachern) Boothby, Jessica, Daniel and Sara Hineman, Miles (Chantal Crawford) and Shalena (Donald Malloy) Brush. He will also be missed by 7 great grandchildren, Travis, Savannah, Kolton, Ethan, Emily, Dax and Miles Jr.

Paul and Rene moved to Huntsville in 1960 where they built a home and raised their family on a family hobby farm. Paul worked for a number of years as Assistant Manager at the Empire Hotel before moving on to Huntsville Timber where he worked until it closed. Rene and Paul owned and operated Leisure Time Pools until they retired. In the 1980's Paul could be seen flying about in his J3 Cub flying out of the Emsdale Airfield and Borden Boothby's airstrip in Dwight. He and his flying buddy Alfred Montpetit had some great adventures and he loved to take his grandson Kris flying with him.

In recent years his health had taken a turn and he has spent the last few months at Muskoka Landing.

Although he was not able to go back to Lunenburg for one last trip his granddaughter Shannan and her family made the trip this past summer and she was able to show him the town via a computer at Muskoka Landing. Great grandsons Travis and Ethan were able to visit the Academy where Great Grandpa went to school.

Paul's grandchildren and great grandchildren brought him much joy and even when he was feeling a bit confused the sight of the little ones brought a smile to his face.

Rene would like to thank niece Lorrie McCall and good friend Mary Ann Lupton for their support during the last few difficult months.

At his request cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, November 17 from 11am to 1pm at the Billingsley Funeral Home in Huntsville.

If desired donations to Algonquin Grace Hospice, Southlake Regional Health Centre or The War Amps would be appreciated in lieu of flowers. A private burial will take place in the spring of 2019.
