WITHERS, Margaret (nee MacLeod)

Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at Algonquin Grace Residential Hospice at the age of 96, after a short illness.

Margaret MacLeod was born on January 2, 1926 in Coventry, England, immigrating to Canada after the Second World War to start married life with her husband, Gerald Withers. They settled in Muskoka, and she developed a deep love for her adopted country. Becoming a Canadian citizen was one of her proudest moments. A passionate environmentalist and birder, she was highly involved with the Huntsville Nature Club and Friends of Algonquin Park for many years. She was an active canoeist and cross-country skier well into her retirement.

Margaret was predeceased by her husband Gerald in 2006 and her son Richard in 2009. She is survived by children Susan (Robert Struthers), Jillian (Doug Kitts), Peter, and Thomas (Sandy). She is the beloved grandmother of Katherine Struthers (Jared Young), Sam Southworth (Courtney), Aaron Kitts (Niki), Andrew Struthers (Shasha), Mark Kitts (Andrea), Jennifer Withers (Allan Pinkerton), Jesse Rogerson (Cody), and Colin Withers (Nicole McCormick). Great grandmother of Walker, Ashton, Connor, Ben, Cole, Makena, Mia, Owen, Emily, Hudson, Waylon, and Beau.

The family would like to thank Huntsville Hospital, Algonquin Grace Hospice, and their wonderful staff for the thoughtful and compassionate care extended to both Margaret and her family. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to both the friends and the caregivers who enabled Margaret to stay in her beloved home by the lake for as long as she did. You made all the difference in the world.

A private graveside service will take place on July 30, 2022.  Due to concerns surrounding Covid-19 the family have decided to forgoe a reception at this time. Memorial donations can be made to the Friends of Algonquin Park. Messages of condolence can be left at www.billingsleyfuneralhome.com
