William Sidney Paterson

November 15, 1943 — December 27, 2023

Emsdale, Ontario

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Bill Paterson on December 27, 2023.

Bill is survived by wife Janice, daughter Tracey Paterson (Jerry Wright), step-sons Adam Byng and Aaron Byng. Sister Eileen Paterson, and brothers Robert Paterson and Graham Paterson (Karen), plus several nieces and nephews and honorary “grandkids”.

Bill was born in Hamilton but grew up in Waterdown, Ontario. He worked at Stelwire in Hamilton for 34 years. In 1999 just as he retired he met Janice. They married in 2001. After retiring Bill took up a job at Rona in Hamilton and transferred to Rona in Huntsville when he and wife Janice moved to live full time at their property on Bay Lake in Perry Township. When Janice retired in 2008 Bill left Rona to start their own small business utilizing Janice’s artistic talents. Painted Kids Face Painting was formed and Bill managed all the bookings and setups at events and markets all over Muskoka and region. Painted Kids was a regular at the Rosseau Market, Lumina Resort, the Riverside Craft show and many other events. Bill always enjoyed chatting up the moms while Janice was painting the kids faces. Over 12 years Painted Kids put smiles on more than 27000 faces. Bill really missed the kids when Covid forced the shutdown of the business. Declining health prevented starting up after the end of the pandemic.

Bill was a loving husband and father. An intelligent guy who took pride in writing editorials to our major newspapers and seeing his submissions published. He was concerned about conservation and took an active part in his lake association. Bill loved animals and always had a dog at his side.

Special thanks to the medical staff and nurses of South Wing, HMH and at the Algonquin Grace Hospice for your kind and caring treatment of Bill and of his loved ones.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Bill at a later date.
