Violet Muriel Shortt (née Stone), of Huntsville, Ontario, passed away peacefully at the Algonquin Grace Hospice on December 18, 2025.
Born on April 8, 1942, in Huntsville, Ontario, Muriel dedicated her life to her family, her faith, and her work. She worked for 34 years at A&P, where she was known for her warm smile, kindness, hard work and genuine care for everyone she served.
A devote Christian, Muriel lived her faith daily through her involvement with Faith Baptist Church on West Road in Huntsville. Her spirituality and compassion have touched the lives of many.
Muriel will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 67 years, Lyle. She was a devoted mother to her two sons, Michael (Mary Ellen) and Bart (Tanya), raising them with unwavering love, strength, and guidance. She was a proud and beloved Nana to Jamie (Jordan), Josh (Amy), Camron (Maria), Kyle (Insiya) and Elizabeth and cherished Great-Nana to Kaiden, Barrett, August and Jack Lyle. Her warmth and generosity leave a lasting legacy in her family.
The family extend heartfelt thanks to the oncology staff at Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie, the oncology staff at the Huntsville District Memorial Hospital, Dr. Maria Morcos and her team, and the compassionate caregivers at Algonquin Grace Hospice.
Her family treasured her presence and the love she shared, and though she will be deeply missed, her spirit, faith, and kindness continue to inspire all who knew her.
Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at Billingsley Funeral Home on January 17, 2026 at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Algonquin Grace Hospice, the Salvation Army or the Huntsville Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
