TERRY LISLE HEWITT

Peacefully at Huntsville District Memorial Hospital on Monday March 16, 2026. Terry, beloved husband of Gail and late Renate, was in his 76th year.  Dear father of Michael (Asmahan) and Robert Hewitt.  Loving brother of Jeff (Vicki) and predeceased by Hal, Paul (late Jeannie) and Nancy.  Uncle of Patti, Darrell and Kelly.

Terry will be remembered as someone who kept things simple and steady. He built a life in Terrace, British Columbia, where he raised Michael and Robbie and spent his working years with BC Tel and later Telus. His work often took him into remote areas, sometimes reached only by helicopter or float plane. He showed up, did the work, and provided without needing recognition. He made time for his family, taking them skiing at the local hill, skating on the river, and heading out to the lake and hot springs. He made a point of returning to Ontario during summer vacations to visit family and friends, and after retiring, he came back east to resettle on familiar ground.

He valued driving through rural areas, finding waterfalls tucked just off the highway, and taking long drives to admire the scenery. He enjoyed going out for good meals at his favourite restaurants. He read World Almanacs to understand how the world worked, from the size of water bodies to how countries produce power. He loved trees and learned to identify them wherever he went. He enjoyed gardening and collecting boulders to shape and anchor his flower beds.

He helped people in practical ways, offering rides to the hospital or running errands when someone needed a hand. He paid attention to where he was and who he was with. What stays with people is not one big moment, but the pattern of how he lived. Reliable. Helpful. Caring.

A celebration of Terry’s life will be held later in May; details will be announced.
