Sylvia Jean Peterkin passed away peacefully on Friday June 26, 2026, at Muskoka Landing Long Term Care.
Jean will be forever loved and remembered by her husband Albert and their two daughters Kathy Fitzmaurice (David) and Cynthia Buckle. Cherished by her grandchildren Adam Fitzmaurice (Melissa), Erin Doran (Jamie), and Samantha Zettler (Adam), and she was ever so proud to be a great-grandmother to her 9 great-grandchildren. Jean will also be remembered by her many nieces, nephews and other family members.
After high school, Jean went to work at the Old Stedmans .5₵ to $1.00 store in Huntsville until the arrival of her first daughter. From there, Jean took on the most important role of being a full-time mother and wife. Throughout their years together, Albert’s job took the family to many places throughout Ontario; from Bracebridge, Simcoe, Minaki (North of Kenora), and Beaverton to name a few before settling back to Huntsville in 1994.
Jean had many hobbies and could always be found doing more than one thing at time, like playing solitaire while watching TV. She was an expert knitter, crocheter and quilter, and her family will always cherish the works from Jean. While in the North, she took up curling and after coming back home she took an interest in bowling where her and her husband, a niece and nephew organized and looked after a team called “The Friday Night Nuts”.
As was Jean’s wish, cremation has taken place. A small service will be held at a later date.
For those who wish and in memory of Jean, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Muskoka or to a charity of choice.
