It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Susanne Elizabeth Johnston (née Davis), who died peacefully on August 18, 2026, at the age of 86.
Born on June 10, 1940, in Hamilton, Ontario, Sue lived a life defined by strength, independence, compassion, and unwavering determination. A nurse for more than 35 years, she devoted her career to caring for others. Sue worked countless overnight shifts in Ontario hospitals caring for those who needed help the most. Her hard work and dedication not only helped innumerable patients but also supported her young family.
Whether camping, paddling a canoe across a quiet lake, planting her garden, or surrounded by the animals she loved, Sue was happiest in nature and with a dog by her side. She faced life's challenges with remarkable toughness and self-reliance, never expecting anyone else to carry her burdens. Those who knew her will remember her for her practical wisdom, her steadfast loyalty, and the deep care she showed to the people and animals fortunate enough to be part of her life.
Sue was a devoted mother to Mark, Peter, Brenda, Barbara, and stepmother to Jennifer, and Betsy each of whom held a special place in her heart. She was a proud and cherished grandmother to Kaitlin, Miranda, Nathan, Brittany, Cassie, David, Alex, John, and Grace, each of whom brought her immense joy. She will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren, extended family, and many dear friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Les with whom she shared many happy years in Dwight, Ontario and on Loon Lake in Kearney.
Her family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the physicians, nurses, and caregivers who cared for her with compassion during her final days at the Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital.
Though our hearts are saddened, we take comfort in a life well lived and, in the love and memories she leaves behind. She will be remembered always and missed beyond measure.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Sue's memory to the Arthritis Society of Canada https://arthritis.ca/
