Shirley Helen Janes (nee Thistlethwaite)

Shirley peacefully went to be with the Lord she loved and served on July 25th, 2025 in her 94th year at Muskoka Shores Care Community.  Beloved wife of Jack for over 63 years.  Dearly loved Mother of Allan (Corry), Jeffrey (Kim) and Janice (Scott) Hisey.  She will be sadly missed by her cherished granddaughters Robin and Rebecca.  She is survived by her brother Jack and sister Jane.  Predeceased by her parents Wilfred and Helen Thistlethwaite and her brothers Albert, Larry and Roger.

Mom was born in her grandparent's home on Dufferin Street in Toronto.  She was raised on "Shirley Street" and attended the Shirley Street Public School!  This was followed by Kent Commercial where she studied secretarial skills.  Two of her earliest jobs were delivering papers (The Star and Tele) with her brother Jack and working at Planter's Peanuts.  Mom worked at Offset Printing and Litho for several years doing secretarial and booking duties.

In September of 1956 she married John Janes who attended the same church.  Together they started a new adventure living in several different areas; Scarborough, Seaforth, Wallaceville, Listowel, Beaverton and ending in Huntsville.  During those years Mom worked part time in two drug stores starting with payroll and eventually helping in the dispensary.  This was followed by serving where needed during their days at Fair Havens and Muskoka Bible Conferences.  She and Dad developed many life long friendships during those years serving the Lord together.

Mom was very talented and enjoyed many hobbies over the years including, sewing, knitting, crocheting, cross-stitching and china painting.  She bowled with Dad and tried curling at Listowel.  She loved to swim, but never did master diving!  Her greatest love was reading which she passed on to her kids and granddaughters.  Mom was a great cook and baker.  Everyone looked forward to her Christmas goodies, fudge and buttertarts.  It gave Mom great joy to work in Pioneer Girls, Sunday School and Awana over theyears.  She faithfully served at her church in the Library, on the telephone prayer chain and sending flowers to members for various occasions.  It brought joy to her heart being with her granddaughters as much as possible and poured love into them continually.

Mom had a heart of deep love for her parents, brothers, and sister, cousins nieces and nephews.  Love and care for her children and their spouses and granddaughters was always in great supply.  She was an encouragement to many friends, especially those who had experienced a rough go in life.  Her favourite Scripture was Numbers 6:24-26.

Our special thanks are extended to the kind and compassionate staff at Muskoka Shores, who cared for both Mom and Dad for the past several years.

We shall miss you Mom but rejoice in knowing you are at peace with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Absent from trhe body; present with the Lord.
