VOWELS, Ruth Viettia (nee MacDonald)

Passed away peacefully on August 27th, 2023.  Ruth was 83 year old.  Ruth was predeceased by her father Collins MacDonald and Mother Mildred MacDonald (nee MacKay).

Ruth is also predeceased by her siblings Evelyn (Fred) Broadbent, Velma (John) Callery, Jim (Betty), Dormer, Ernie (Marjorie), Iona (Ted) Shakespeare, Clarence (Florence), Patsy, Larry (Joyce). Ruth was a devoted wife and mother and is predeceased by her husband Ray Vowels, and is survived by her 4 sons; Raymond (Vicki), Brad, Ken (Jen), Keven (Roxane). Ruth was grandmother to Raymond Lee, Tracy, Randy, Lisa, Morgan, Kennedy, Branden, Matt and was also a step Grandmother and a Great Grandmother.

Ruth grew up in Huntsville and as a child went to Britannia Road School and Brunel School at the locks. In her younger years Ruth worked for a time along with some family members at the Britannia Hotel Tourist Resort where she did laundry and prepared rooms. She also spent some time as a housemaid and when in Burlington worked in a shoe factory.

But the story Ruth loved to tell most was when she met her husband, Ray. They met on May 24, 1959. They fell madly in love and got engaged in June and married on September 5th of the same year. They were married for 63 years! They started their family and moved several times, living in Burlington, Parry Sound, Hamilton, Port Sydney, and Huntsville. Ruth fondly remembers many of places she lived and spoke often of the memories with Ray and her boys while living on Lake Waseosa.

Ruth had written years prior her feelings about her life:

“One never knows what health will hold for us in the years ahead. I have no regrets of my married life. I am proud of our sons and feel we have done a good job raising them. I love my husband and sons with all my heart, and feel just as much love from them”.

Now Ruth is reunited with her husband Ray and others who have gone before her. May you rest in peace Ruth.

In keeping with Ruth's wishes, cremation has taken place.  A celebration of life will be held at a later date.  As an expression of sympathy memorial donations can be made to Hospice Huntsville in lieu of flowers.
