Robert Wendell Smith

We remember Robert Wendell Smith, who passed away peacefully on July 4th 2025, in his ninety second year, after a lengthy stay at Muskoka Landing in Huntsville.

Loving husband of Barbara Smith, predeceased, and married for 65 years until her passing in March 2022. Father of Charles and Peter. Grandfather to Justin, age 29.

Bob was born in Nova Scotia. His employment commenced in Nova Scotia with the Bank of Nova Scotia. eventually moving to Toronto to continue working for the Bank there. Bob then came to be employed with Unilever Corporation (Lever Brothers) which came to be known as Lever Detergent. Bob and Barb raised their 2 boys and family dogs in Scarborough.

Bob and Barb purchased a lakefront lot on Toad Lake off Limberlost Road in the 1960s. In the succeeding years, Bob and Barb built a beautiful cottage overlooking the lake and resided there full time starting around 1990 after his early retirement, subsequently moving into town to shorten their commute. They became active members of many groups and clubs in town including Muskoka Seniors, Probus, Trinity United Church, the local Curling Club, Meals on Wheels and the Deerhurst Golf Club, among others. Bob for many years faithfully volunteered and served on the Board of Directors for Lever Brothers Credit Union which became Equity Credit Union. It seemed everywhere Bob and Barbara went somebody knew them and recognized them from their active social life and volunteerism in town.

They also found time to travel extensively and enjoy many trips to European destinations, the Caribbean and the US.

Our heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Muskoka Landing, plus Lynda West and Jodi Campbell for their attention and care to Bob, especially in his final months and days.

Bob's memorial service will be held at Trinity United Church, Huntsville in September, date and time is pending.
