Gougeon, Maxine Doreen (nee Buck)
December 9, 1929 - February 23, 2019
Passed away peacefully with her youngest daughter by her side at Huntsville District Memorial Hospital after suffering a serious fall and subsequent strokes.
Born in Hanover, Ontario and raised in Brampton, Maxine went on to travel the world and raising her family in Hong Kong, Sydney, Australia, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and cottaging at Three Mile Lake in Muskoka with her predeceased husband, pilot captain James Butterill, later settling down in Georgetown. She later found great happiness and companionship in her lifelong friend Gerald Gougeon, who predeceased her in 2016. Their fondness for wood carving, fishing at her cottage in Port Carling, afternoon cocktails, and recalling the "good ol' days" were a blessing to them both. Maxine then moved to Huntsville to be closer to her family. Her love of oil painting and speed reading continued throughout her life.
Predeceased by parents John Wesley and Ruby Buck (nee Eby), sisters Joan Gordon and Jacqueline Gougeon, and son Richard Butterill. Maxine will be sadly missed by her sister Carol Maynard, stepson James Crandell (Christine), daughters Janet Fuls and Lisa Wegner (Steve). Fondly remembered by grandchildren Jason, Kelsey, Mitch, and great-grandchildren Nolan, Olivier, Madison, Viviann, and friends at Chartwell (Muskoka Traditions) and around the world.
Visitation will be held on Saturday March 2, 2019 at Billingsley Funeral Home in Huntsville from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by a service at 1:00 p.m with The Venerable Dawn Henderson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
