Marie Elaina Poirier, born on September 19, 1959, in St. Catharines, Ontario, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Dwight on July 20, 2025. She was the devoted owner of Marie Poirier Planning, a testament to her entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to serving others throughout her career.
Marie was a proud graduate of Brock University, where she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree. Her passion for her work was matched only by her love for her family and friends, who will deeply feel her absence. She is survived by her beloved husband, David Mathew Young. The couple shared a life filled with love and cherished memories.
Marie is also survived by her sons, Matthew Young and his wife Amanda Young, Micheal Young and his wife Cheryl Young, Robert Young and his wife Gillian Young, and her daughter Dena Young-Weber and her husband Oliver. She was a proud grandmother to Christopher, Zoey, Ethan, Hunter, Cole, Kiera, William, Konner, and the late Lindsay, and a great-grandmother to Haleigh, Harmony, and Harper.
Marie’s nurturing nature extended beyond her immediate family. She was affectionately known as “Grandma Marie” to many "other children" in her community. This speaks volumes about her warmth and the bond she built with her extended family and friends. She leaves behind the dedicated staff at Marie Poirier Planning, the PSWs, and her long-time friends Rich and Shelly Tapp, Alex and Sam Tapp, Martin and Linda Kilian, and Marty Kilian and his spouse Jamie Lemire. She was also fondly remembered by the Lake of Bays fire boat ladies, Brad and Theresa, and many others whose lives she touched.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Marie had a vibrant personality that embraced music, the outdoors, and the beauty of nature. She found joy in playing guitar, singing, and listening to her favorite tunes, especially those of John Denver. Fishing and spending time at her treasured home on Lake of Bays were among her greatest joys.
Marie was predeceased by her parents, Mary-Lou and Walter Poirier, and her brother, Carl Poirier. Her legacy of love, kindness, and compassion will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
Visitation will be held on July 24, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Billingsley Funeral Home, located at 430 Ravenscliffe Road, Huntsville, Ontario.
