Margaret "Marg" Isabel McCulley, (nee MacInnis) born on September 13, 1938, in Bracebridge, Ontario, passed away peacefully at her home in Huntsville, Ontario, surrounded by her loving children on October 8, 2025.
Marg's life was a testament to dedication and hard work. At the age of 16, she moved to Huntsville, where she began her journey as a waitress, quickly establishing herself in the community. She married Delbert Sawyer in 1956, and together they raised four wonderful children while managing their successful family restaurant, Mary Lake Lunch, in Port Sydney. Marg's commitment to her family and work was unwavering. Tragically, Delbert predeceased her in 1987, leaving behind cherished memories of their life together.
An avid learner, Marg attended public school in Port Sydney before continuing her education at Bracebridge High School. Her love for learning never waned, and she often shared her knowledge and experiences with her family.
She was a passionate individual who found joy in various hobbies. Her interests included cross country skiing, bowling, swimming, golfing, gardening, knitting, playing cards, and enjoying family functions. These activities brought her immense happiness and allowed her to connect deeply with those around her.
Throughout her life, Marg's warmth and kindness touched many. She is survived by her husband Robert McCulley, whom she married in 1989, and her children Debbie Sawyer, Clay, and Darlene Sawyer. Her family also includes her sister-in-law Karen MacInnes, as well as stepchildren who affectionately called her "Marg": Tracy McCulley, Troylea (Craig) Price, Leta McCulley, and Robert McCulley. Marg was a devoted grandmother to Christopher, Kyle, Matt, Jessica, Ashleigh (Greg), Daniel (Robert), and Cassidy, along with step-grandchildren Dylan, Katlyn (Ryan), Brooke, Brendon, Kayla, and Morgan. Great-grandmother to 11.
She was predeceased by her two sons, Marty Sawyer and Lee Sawyer, as well as her brother Donald MacInnes. Marg also mourned the loss of her parents, Hugh and Eliza-Jane (nee Wreggitt) MacInnes, who instilled in her the values she carried throughout her life.
The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the palliative nurses and Closing the Gap for their exceptional care, as well as the Huntsville Hospital staff and the "Condo Ladies" for their support during her final days.
A celebration of Marg's life will take place on November 1, 2025, at Billingsley Funeral Home, located at 430 Ravenscliffe Road, Huntsville, Ontario. The gathering will begin with prayers and speeches at 12:30 PM, followed by a celebration of life event where light snacks and refreshments will be served.
