Lois Jean Lane, née Mitchell, passed away on November 5, 2026, at Georgian Bay General Hospital in Midland, Ontario, in her 97th year. Born in Etobicoke Township to the late Alexander Mills Mitchell and Lulu Ardella Jamieson, Lois was the last surviving of her siblings: Isabel, Marion, Ruth,Doug, Bill, Jack, and Bobby. Lois lived a long and deeply complex life.
Lois spent many years living in central Ontario and Muskoka, where she worked as a show home hostess for French's Fine Homes in Port Sydney. She maintained a strong, particular vision for her surroundings and brought a detailed, hands-on focus to home decorating, sewing, crocheting, and knitting over the years.
She was predeceased by her husband, Victor Howard Lane, in 1998.
Lois is survived by her children: Paul Donald Gilbert (Kathryn Graham) of Oliver, BC; Marlene Louise Robinson(Nicholas) of Anglemont, BC; and Victoria Jacqueline Seymour (Franklin Green) of Trenton, ON. She is also remembered by her grandchildren, Rory (Taryn), Caitlin, Julia, and Scott; her great-grandchildren, Hanley and Hanson; her lifelong friend Elsie Ring; and Darlene MacNeil, who was an honorary daughter to her; along with her many nieces and nephews.
Lois walked a path shaped by significant personal challenges, and her journey was not always simple or easy. As her life comes to a close, her family holds a shared hope for her enduring rest and peace.
The family wishes to thank the caring staff at King Place Retirement for allowing Mom to live close to her cherished roots by Little Lake Midland, where she camped many summers with her much loved Grandmother Molly and Grandfather Bill.
In keeping with Lois's wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal services will be held. She will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband, Victor.
