Our dear Mom, Joyce Antcliffe, passed away on April 21, 2026, in Huntsville Hospice. She was in her 100th year. Joyce Adelaide Head was born May 26, 1926, at the family homestead on Brunel Road. She was educated at Locks School and Huntsville High. Joyce married ‘Red’ (George Antcliffe) in 1949 and raised three children.
She will be greatly missed by her children, Pat (Phil Wainwright), Bill (Lynn Thompson) and Heather (Rob Filuk). Also, by her grandchildren, Dale, Joe, Jim, Simon (Vanessa), Adelaide and Bruce, and her three great-grandkids, Cameron, Allison and Logan.
Joyce was predeceased by Red (2010), her brother, Bill Head and her sister, Shirley McDermid. She is survived by her sister, Joan Salmon, her sister-in laws, Skip, Liz and Penny, along with many nieces and nephews.
Mom dedicated her life to supporting her family and community. She hosted many family pot lucks at the Lake Waseosa cottage. She was active in the Rebekahs and Chaffey Women’s Institute. When Mom and Dad retired to Emsdale in 1976, she became involved with the United Church Ladies groups. She made many good friends in Emsdale. She loved playing euchre in Kearney. Mom had a busy home life with her baking, crocheting, reading, keeping up with the Royals and watching the world go by her front window. She collected jokes and would save them to present at appropriate moments.
Mom had an adventurous spirit. During WW II she served as a Farmerette in the Niagara area. She loved to travel; cruising to Alaska and the Caribbean, and road trips with Red, all over Canada and the U.S., going to visit the girls in California and Vancouver Island.
Mom lived through some hard times; the Great Depression, WW II, Covid. She endured worries over raising her kids, supporting them through their ups and downs, and she tolerated the increasing health limitations brought on by aging. Through it all she kept a positive attitude and always tried to make the most of a difficult situation.
Mom had the kindest heart. She was interested in people and enjoyed getting to know them. Until her later years she always had a small dog who was her companion and confidant. Mom will be remembered by many as ‘that nice lady’. We appreciate the efforts she made through her long life, and the love and support she gave us all. She will be missed but not forgotten.
“Time and years slip quietly by, love and memories never die.”
The family would like to thank Dr. M. Stephenson, and her office, who have been caring for Mom for 26 years. Also, for their kind care, our gratitude to Rogers Cove, Huntsville Hospital, Fairvern, and Huntsville Hospice.
In honoring Mom’s wishes, there will be no service.
