Joy Patricia Baker Griffin (nee Tammela)

Joy Patricia Baker Griffin, a beloved mother passed away peacefully on March 15, 2025 in Dwight, Ontario Canada.

Joy was born on September 27, 1942 to Eve Baker and William Griffin in Hayes, Middlesex England. Joy’s outgoing nature and presence left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Joy spent much of her life playing, coaching and volunteering hours of her time to tennis on the courts in Markham, Box Grove, Port Perry and other townships. She loved bringing the sport of tennis to everyone. Concurrently, she earned a Liberal Arts degree from the University of Toronto in Fine Arts and a Masters in Religious Studies from Oxford in the UK. Later, she traveled throughout the world meeting her school friends before settling down and enjoying cottage life with her dog Spirit.

Joy’s children were her ultimate passion and she devoted herself to being the best Mother possible.  Joy is survived by John E Tammela, daughter, Tracey L Tammela and son, Jonathan E. Tammela who will miss her deeply.

The family would especially like to thank all Joy’s friend’s and neighbors both close and afar who have cared for and loved our Mother for years up at the cottage. We sincerely love and appreciate all you have done for our Mother and for us.
