Irene Beverley "Bev" Stewart (nee Green)

Bev Stewart (nee Green) passed away peacefully on July 26, 2025, at Fairvern Nursing Home in Huntsville, Ontario surrounded by love.

Bev was born on March 5, 1952, in Huntsville to the late Agnes and Orval Green. Being one of five children, family was one of her main passions in life. She often showed her love of her family and special friends by hosting gatherings and cooking at least twice as much delicious food as was needed. She challenged herself to make gatherings special because she always wanted to show everyone how much they meant to her. And, yes, it was a disaster in her eyes if she ran out of food. Bev's happiest times included those spent with her late sister Bonnie (Yvonne Nunn)—her bestie, singing and baking partner in crime.

It was through Bonnie's boyfriend and future husband, David Nunn, that she met her best friend, biggest supporter and beloved husband of over 52 years, Don Stewart. Together they settled in Emsdale and had a daughter, Donna. Bev was a caring and dedicated mother and wife with the ability to do anything that needed to be done. Together, Bev and Don cleared the land and built their home of over 40 years. She instructed Sunday School, volunteer taught craft class at public school, and was a member of the agriculture board for several years.

Her numerous talents included baking, sewing, knitting, crocheting, crafts and woodcarving, all recognized and appreciated locally. Later she applied her talents while working at The Sewing Centre, London Wines, The Painted Porch and Ron Henry Jewellers. She was passionate about whatever she tried and always gave her all to make it successful and to make friends along the way.

Eventually Bev and Don picked up their hammers again working together as contractors. Together they designed, built and cleaned many projects—always together and always each others biggest critics, supporters and defenders. They were blessed with the companionship of their little furry princess Leila. Leila was able to bring her great joy and comfort at the end.

Another constant in Bev's life was her beloved brother Marvin. She roped him into many of her creative projects and he always obliged. Bev would beam with pride anytime anyone asked about Marvin and was so comforted by his presence. Time with Marvin and Joyce gave her many happy memories.

Bev welcomed her son-in-law John with open arms although they often teased each other so much that Don and Donna would leave the room. She had lovingly accepted her role as a grandmother to Chili the granddog but was over-the-moon with the arrival of her grandson, Liam. Liam was lucky to have had Granma and Grampa time consistently througout his 18 years. Granma's love, strength, creativity and unwavering belief in him helped shape him into the young man he is now.

My mama was an incredibly giving, fiercely loyal, determined, strong, sweet, loving, albeit hot tempered, keep it real, tell it like it is, amazing woman. I was lucky to have her to guide me, to practice for spelling tests with, to teach me to split wood, to cook with, to teach me to bathe a baby, to show me how to drive spikes in three hits, to love fiercely, to feel deeply, to be scared, to face fears head on, and to come out the other side stronger.

She did like to say "$#!# or get off the pot!" when somone was complaining about a situation that they didn't like. It was how she coped and pushed herself along the tough roads and took charge of things that she could control when life blindsided her. Did she always do it perfectly? No, of course not—but at least she tried and she probably made an excellent meal to go along with it. I know that she would wish you to do the same.

Bev was predeceased by her sister with the beautiful soul Yvonne Nunn, full of love niece Gerri-Lee Nunn, cool big brother "Gator" Laverne Green, always ready with a smile sister-in-law Carol Green and strong beautiful niece Billie-Jo Frick.

The family thanks the staff at Muskoka Traditions for their kindness in making Bev (and Don) feel at home before transitioning to long term care. There are no words that can adequately thank the staff and volunteers of Fairvern for their tender and compassionate care of Bev. You made her journey more comfortable and she felt your love.
