Irene Mary Leonard

Irene Mary Leonard, born on September 12, 1923 in Montreal, Quebec was sent to her eternal home on May 14th, 2025, in Huntsville, Ontario. She was 101.5 years old at the time of her death with her family by her side.

Irene, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and laughter. Her passing has left a void in the hearts of her family, and friends. We ask that you remember her not for the way her life ended, but for the way it was lived, and for the profound impact it had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Irene survived her husband, Victor Leonard who she married July 26, 1941. They had 4 children: Doreen Stinson, Patsy Leonard, Constance Mulligan and Victor Leonard. She had 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 16 great great grandchildren. She had many nieces, nephews and friends that love and adored her. Her parents were Beatrice Doward who was born in England and Martin O’Toole who was born in Ireland. She survived all of her siblings; Danny, Bridget, John, Madeline, Joe, Ronald, Emma, Sadie, Ollie, and Kit.

Those who knew Irene will remember her for her infectious smile and her unwavering commitment to spreading love and kindness to everyone she encountered. Irene found joy in music and she loved to dance. She lived through 2 World Wars and the great depression. Irene worked at the Chrysler Plant in Ajax as a line worker for 30 years, then she retired and moved to her home on Buck Lake. She loved to spend time vacationing with the Stinson family, hanging out with the Grandkids at her beach, going fishing, snowmobiling and gardening. She was also a great cook.

The Celebration of Life service to honor the life of Irene Mary Leonard will be held on Saturday June 28th between 1 and 4PM in the upstairs room at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 232, 21 Veterans Way, in Huntsville, Ontario.

There are no words that can express how grateful and blessed we are to the Huntsville Hospital Staff and the staff of Hospice Huntsville for their care of Irene and the support of our family.

Although Irene’s physical presence may no longer grace our lives, her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. May her memory be a blessing, and may we carry forth her legacy of love and compassion in all that we do.
