Ian Roberts, born on April 15, 1936, in Baysville, Ontario, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2026, at Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital. He was a man whose life was marked by dedication, community service, and a love for both family and the simple joys of life.
For over three decades, Ian was a familiar face and a trusted presence at the Shell station on Airport Road, where he worked tirelessly with pride and commitment. Beyond this, he ventured into entrepreneurship, co-founding a hockey stick factory, a testament to his passion for the sport and his business acumen. Ian’s adventurous spirit was evident in his youth and beyond, riding on bareback while delivering horses to summer camps around the Baysville and Dwight area, memories cherished by those who knew him well.
Ian’s love of coaching and sports was an integral part of his life. He coached boys’ baseball teams in Malton and Mississauga, as well as the girls' hockey team affectionately known as “The Tottenham Chicks.” His enthusiasm for hockey extended beyond the rink, enjoying playing, watching, and the camaraderie the sport fostered. His leisure activities also included bowling, feeding the local deer in winter on Chikopi Road, and engaging in the community through his long-standing service delivering Meals on Wheels.
Music was another of Ian’s passions; he played several instruments including the guitar, ukulele, and harmonicas. Impressively, he pursued violin lessons later in life, showing his lifelong dedication to learning and growth. A good card game was a favorite pastime, enjoyed especially when he was winning, reflecting his playful and spirited nature. Additionally, Ian was known for his fondness for Tim Horton’s coffee, a simple pleasure he appreciated daily.
Ian is lovingly remembered by his beloved wife, Mary Lee, and children: daughters Cindy (John), Lorie, Tammy, and Sara (Mike), as well as his son Trevor. He also leaves behind his sister, Connie. Ian’s family mourns the loss of daughter Jennifer, as well as his father William Lea Roberts, mother Anne Lea Roberts (nee Street), and siblings Myfanwy (Johnny & Sam) Llewelleyn (Diana), John, and Roland (Kapka).
A visitation will take place on March 27, 2026, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Billingsley Funeral Home, located at 430 Ravenscliffe Road, Huntsville, Ontario, P1H 1L7. The service will be officiated by the Venerable Kelly Baetz of All Saints Anglican Church, honoring Ian’s faith and his connection to the community.
Ian Roberts’s life was defined not only by his achievements and passions but also by his kindness, dedication to others, and the warmth he shared with those around him. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege to know him.
