Hana Sonnenfeld

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Hana Sonnenfeld (nee Fricova). Surrounded by her family on Tuesday November 11th, Hana passed away peacefully at the age of 69.

Hana was happily married to Ervin Sonnenfeld, her husband of 47 years. She is the loving mother to her daughters Martina (Shaun Kruger) and Katherine (Colin Hennige). Cherished as “Babi” by her grandchildren Ava and Claudia Kruger and Wyatt and Elowyn Hennige.

Hana was born on July 29th,1956 in Jablonec nad Nisou Czechia and is remembered by her loving twin sister Marta (Martin) Stepnicka, brother Ruda Frice and deceased brother Karl Frice. She will be lovingly remembered by her sister-in-law Elfi and as Teta Hanka Aunt to Roland (Andrea) and Milan (Majka).

Hana and Ervin started to build their lives together when they first immigrated with their first daughter to Canada in 1984. She spent much of her career working as a dietary aid at both Freeport and Grand River Hospital where she met her work family. Hana and Ervin finally retired in 2017 when they moved to the town of Huntsville.

Hana’s greatest joy was spending time with her family, playing with her grandchildren and sharing delicious meals together. She enjoyed traveling back home, going for walks in nature with her husband, and camping with their closest circle of friends who became her family.

We would also like to thank the wonderful doctors and health practitioners who were a part of Hana’s care team at Sunnybrook Hospital and here in Huntsville. You provided our mom with the utmost care, our deepest gratitude to Dr. O'Halloran and the palliative care team.

Family and Friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life gathering on Friday November 14th at Billingsley Funeral Home, 430 Ravenscliffe Road, Huntsville, from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm with speeches to be shared at 4:00 pm.  Livestreaming will be available for those unable to attend the speeches.  The livestreaming link can be found below in the service section.
