George Edwin Markle

In loving memory of George Edwin Markle, born January 9th, 1940, who passed on March 7th, 2024, at the Fairvern Nursing Home due to complications from Parkinson’s disease. He is survived by his wife Mary, his son George Jr. (Ross) Markle, his two daughters Marjorie Markle, and Ann Gloade, and his three grand-daughters Rachael and Sarah Markle and Verity Gloade.

George was born in Huntsville and worked and lived most of his life there. He was a dedicated servant to the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario as an engineer until he retired, servicing and maintaining the equipment for the Huntsville-Parry Sound region, and occasionally, when needs demanded, ploughing the roads as well. George also, along with his wife Mary, maintained the grounds and housekeeping for the cottages at Timber Bay. People who stayed there from as close as Toronto, and from as far away as England and Ireland respected them and had great affection for both of them. When George wasn’t working, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, making maple syrup and mostly, flying his small two seat bush plane that he made himself from a kit. Second to his family, flying was his greatest passion.

George will be remembered for his kindness. He would lend a hand to anyone who needed it, and never asked anything in return. George never said very much, but when he did share his stories of growing up in Huntsville, they were always told in kindness and generally made everyone laugh. George will be forever remembered by his family and those who knew him for being the hardest working and most devoted husband and father that anyone could be fortunate to meet. We all love and miss you deeply.

In keeping with George’s wishes cremation has taken place.  A family graveside service will take place in the coming months.  As an expression of sympathy memorial donations can be made to Friends of Fairvern.
