Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved Evelyn on Friday, November 21, 2025, at Huntsville District Memorial Hospital, surrounded by family and friends.  She will forever be cherished by all who knew her.

Evelyn was born on June 18, 1955, in Toronto. She married Stewart Thompson on February 23, 1973, in Vancouver, British Columbia, and they shared 53 wonderful and loving years together.

Ev had a long, successful, and fulfilling career with Enbridge (formerly Consumers’ Gas), making many friends over the years. She retired at Freedom 55, embracing a quieter life and enjoying her remaining years. She often joked that she had blue blood running through her veins because she had worked there for so long.

Throughout the years, Ev loved the outdoors—fishing, ice fishing, snowmobiling, camping, and cottage life. Her dream finally came true when she and Stew found the lake home they had always wanted, overlooking Buck Lake, where she cherished every single day. She loved a slow, leisurely roundabout ride on a warm, sunny day in the pontoon boat.

Ev’s real passion was food, and she was known for creating gourmet meals in no time at all.

Those who knew Ev were always greeted with a warm and genuine smile, and she welcomed everyone into her home. She loved a good get-together with family and friends.

Evelyn and Stewart were blessed with a son, Mark, and his wife, Eva, along with four wonderful grandchildren—a lifetime full of love, fun, and memories that will never be forgotten.

She will be sorely missed by her husband, Stewart; her son, Mark, and his wife, Eva; and her grandchildren, Kelseigh (Brendan), Clara, Evan, and Georgia. She is also survived by her siblings Ann (Lorne), Yolanda (Tom), Owen (Sharon), Ian (Darlene), and Kevin (Sarah). She was predeceased by her parents, Owen and Kina Burmania, and her sister, Janet (Jim).

Although she has passed, Ev’s legacy will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, and in the many wonderful moments they shared together.  She will be dearly missed.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2026 from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm at Billingsley Funeral Home, 430 Ravenscliffe Rd., Huntsville.
