Duncan Royce Brown

Jul 17, 1950 — Oct 20, 2026

Huntsville, Ontario

Duncan Royce Brown passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at his residence in Huntsville on October 20, 2026. He was born on July 17, 1950, and will be remembered with love by the many people whose lives he touched through the years.

Duncan worked as a machinist and later retired after his career. He lived in Barrie, Ontario for more than 40 years, building a life marked by hard work, enduring family ties, and the simple pleasures he enjoyed most. He loved to fish, enjoyed gambling, and liked listening to old bluegrass music. Those who knew him will remember a man who valued family deeply and who carried that love with him throughout his life.

Growing up, Duncan and his two brothers were affectionately known as “the Brown boys,” a family bond that remained an important part of his story. All of the Brown boys grew up with poor eyesight, a detail that became part of the shared experience that connected them. Duncan also carried the sorrow of losing his mother Margaret Brown (nee Harries) when he was a teenager, followed shortly after by the loss of his father Charlie Brown. Through all of life’s changes, he remained connected to the people and places that mattered to him, and he had many family and friends in Englehart and Huntsville.

Duncan found true love and friendship when he met his wife, Sandra Lee Kendell. The two shared many years of happiness together until her passing in 2014.

Above all, family was important to Duncan. He is survived by his children, Vicki Selle (and her husband Troy), and Jamie Kendell. He was a loving papa to his grandchildren, Brandon, Kendra, and Ryleigh, and so proud to be great papa to Emmett, Greyson, and Avery, whose lives will continue the family’s story. He is predeceased by his brother Charlie Brown and survived by his brother Donald Brown (and his wife Sue). In a meaningful family legacy, Donald Brown is the last remaining carrier of the Brown family name.

Duncan will be remembered by his nephew Darren Brown, his great niece Hailey Brown, and especially his best friend, Danny Campbell, who over the years, has shown just how special friendships truly are.

The love of his family and friends was a lasting part of Duncan's life, and his memory will remain with them always.

A Celebration of Life will be held on November 7, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Billingsley Funeral Home, 430 Ravenscliffe Road, Huntsville, Ontario. Duncan will be laid to rest beside his wife Sandra Kendell at Barrie Union Cemetery during a private family service at a later date.

In honour and memory of Duncan, donations to the CNIB or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada would be sincerely welcomed.

Duncan will be remembered for his steady presence, his love of family, and the familiar joys that brought him happiness. May the memories he leaves behind bring comfort to all who knew and loved him.
