It is with profound sadness, the family of Doug Yeo announce his passing at the age of 72. He passed away peacefully at Huntsville Hospice with his family by his side.
Lovingly remembered by his devoted wife Gayle Yeo (Simmers), his children Laurie (Dana), Jeff (Carmen), Jamie (Mackenzie), his grandchildren Cameron, Jenna, Patty, Ella, Spencer and Mason. He will also be missed by his mother Dorothy Yeo (Wilker) of London Ontario and his siblings Ken (Kathy), Gary (Dawn), Patricia (Ken) and many other extend family members and friends.
Predeceased by his father Ron Yeo, his father and mother in-law Harold and Marie Simmers, his sister in-law Patricia Delarosbil, and his son Justin Yeo.
Greatly missed by his dogs Annabelle and Eddie.
Doug was born in Stratford Ontario and lived in many places including Walkerton, Hanover, Owen Sound, Plattsville and Preston before starting his married life in London Ontario.
After high school he worked at Westinghouse in London as a Class A Coil Winder building electrical transformers before beginning an extensive career in the cable TV industry. He worked his way up at Maclean Hunter Cable TV in London from Cable Technician to Chief Tech before transferring to the Huntsville office for Maclean Hunter in 1989 as the General Manager.
Doug’s cable career in Huntsville spanned corporate transitions to Rogers, Huntsville and Parry Sound Cable and Cogeco. During this time he worked and developed many friendships with people in the utilities industry while maintaining and expanding the cable TV and fibre optic networks across the Muskoka and Parry Sound regions including a period of time in Burlington Ontario.
Not only did Doug manage the operation, administration, personnel and customer service side of the systems within his responsibility, he maintained a knowledge of the constantly evolving technical aspects of the industry while working physically in the field building and repairing the cable systems. His family affectionately referred to him as “the cable guy”.
Doug took pride in his work but his main focus was his family. He loved buying toys for the kids, vehicles of all types, trucks, campers, boats, motorcycles etc. He measured and valued these objects by the memories they helped him make with the people he loved.
He invested as much of his time as he could with all the kids in his life. No game was to far away for Doug to come watch. Grandpa also never missed any plays, recitals or graduations.
Doug loved pets of all kinds but dogs held a special place in his heart. Evenings at the trailer or cottage were spent in front of the campfire. There was always room in his bush jacket for a furry friend.
Doug was a jack of all trades. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix or build. His cellphone was a hot line for all kinds of vehicle, trailer and house repairs.
In retirement he loved long drives with his wife and dogs and adventures with his family on his pontoon boat.
Memorial donations in Doug’s name can be made to the dialysis unit at Huntsville Hospital or the Hospice Huntsville.
