Diane Howlett

May 12, 1944 — September 8, 2015

Much beloved by her family and friends alike, it is with a grieving heart that we announce the passing of Diane Howlett (nee Marotta). Born in Welland to John and Beryl Marotta on May 12th, 1944. Diane had a wonderful childhood growing up with her brother Brian in a loving family home on Lake Erie in Port Colborne, where family and friends gathered most weekends to enjoy laughter, the sunshine and each other's company. It was in Port Colborne that Diane met and later married at the age of 22 the love of her life, Bruce Cameron Howlett. The two of them created a loving, fun home in Welland for their 3 children Julie (Van Noten), Scott and David. They have three grandchildren: Cady (Schellekens), Mathew and Gillian as well as 2 great grandchildren: James and Emma who fondly remember their grandma. An abundance of friends, too many to mention were so fortunate to have had her in their lives. Diane chose nursing as her lifelong vocation and provided her gentle patient care to patients at all stages of life, beginning in the O.R. in Petrolia, the pediatrics ward at Port Colborne General Hospital and finally retiring from her role as Director of Nursing at St. Charles Retirement Village in 2000. Diane left us while surrounded by family in the early evening hours of September 8th, 2015 at Algonquin Grace Hospice in Huntsville. The family would like to thank Dr. Rob Whaley, Bryan Knappett N.D. and all of the caregivers who tended to her so gently. We take comfort knowing that Diane will forever be looking down upon us all with love and laughter in her heart.
