Darlene Gladys Dunlevy, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home in Huntsville, Ontario, on May 3, 2025, at the age of 79. Born in Toronto, Ontario, on November 23, 1945, Darlene was the beloved daughter of the late Arthur and Gladys Gallagher. Raised in the vibrant community of Etobicoke, she shared her childhood with the Tizzard family, forming lifelong bonds that enriched her early years. Darlene was blessed with a close-knit group of cousins, and these relationships planted the seeds for her strong commitment to family.
Her proudest accomplishment was being both a beloved wife of 41 years to her late husband Robert "Bob" who predeceased her on May 6, 2007, whom she adored, and a mom to her children, a role she embraced with joy and passion. Throughout her life, Darlene exemplified dedication and love, particularly as a devoted mother to her sons, Daniel (Elizabeth), David, and Dennis (Sherri). Darlene found immense fulfillment in watching her family grow, and her love only expanded as she became a grandmother to Mathew (Jenn), Nicholas (Codie), Kayla, Jacqueline (Ayad), Cassidy (Jackson), Abigail (Trea), Justin, Kody (Chelsea), Chandler (Kait), and CC. Darlene’s heart overflowed with pride as she welcomed the next generation with the arrival of her great-grandchildren, Oliver, Lillian, Easton, Meera, Nash, Zayn, Jaxon, and Ayjah.
In her professional life, Darlene made a significant impact as a dedicated school bus driver, where she nurtured safe travels and kind connections with the children she transported. Her community spirit extended beyond her work; she was an active volunteer, serving as a leader for Boy Scouts Canada and a treasurer for the Erindale Hockey Association. Darlene was also passionate about genealogy and spent countless hours studying her family history. A crafty soul, she enjoyed knitting and engaging in various creative projects while sipping a good cup of coffee with friends who became like family.
Darlene's warm personality and unwavering commitment to her family and community will be felt for years to come. She always looked forward to quality time with loved ones, fostering relationships that built a strong and supportive network around her.
A Celebration of Life in honor of Darlene will be held on May 10, 2025, at Billingsley Funeral Home in Huntsville, Ontario, starting at 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM. Family and friends are invited to come together to celebrate a remarkable woman whose legacy will continue to inspire and uplift those she leaves behind. Darlene will be deeply missed, but her love and commitment to her family will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
