Darlene Mae Broadbent

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Darlene Mae Broadbent, who passed on July 26, 2025, in the presence of close family who loved her dearly.

Darlene was born in Huntsville on January 15, 1962. She was the daughter of Donald and Hildred Hayes and sister to Darren (Brenda), Dwayne (Laurie) and Dayle (Steve) Dermaine. She attended Riverside Public School and Huntsville High. On April 7, 1979, she married her best friend's brother, Gordon Broadbent. She became a proud daughter-in-law to Harvey and June and sister-in-law to Edward (Shirley), Brenda (Joe) Fisher, Darlene (Mark) Markle and Dwayne (Stephanie).

Gord and Darlene resided for a short time in St. Catharines before moving back home to be close to family.

On July 31, 1980, Darlene gave birth to Christopher who attended Fanshawe College and pursued a career in IT. Chris married Melynda Spratt from Fort Erie in 2008 and Darlene gained a beloved daughter.

Darlene took a position at the local IGA and remained there as it transitioned to Price Chopper and eventually Freshco, during which time she became the Produce Manager, before turning her attention to receiving and bookkeeping. Darlene enjoyed the friendship of many coworkers until a forced retirement in 2023 due to illness.

In their 46 years of marriage, one of Darlene's joys was packing a lunch and going on day trips to see our beautiful province. Gord's love for her never wavered, and he cared diligently for her thoughout her illness.

To all the Doctors and Nurses at Huntsville Hospital and RVH, as well as the Home Care team from Closing the Gap: Your incredible dedication to comfort, compassion and patient care is heart warming, and we thank you with all our hearts.

We would like to thank all that came to visit and show your love and support over the last many weeks and months. Darlene enjoyed each visit and looked forward to her time with you. To our friends far away, she was delighted for your phone calls, your love, hugs and hearing of your adventures. She was very frustrated that the cancer took her ability to communicate well but thank you for not giving up. Our hearts are with you forever.

As per Darlene's request we will have a private gathering for family and close friends.

If desired, donations can be made to the Huntsville Hospital Foundation at www.huntsvillehospitalfoundation.ca or Hospice Huntsville at https://www.hospicehuntsville.com/donate-form/
