Dan Wilkinson, age 72, of Huntsville, Ontario, peacefully passed away on October 4th, 2026. He leaves behind a legacy defined by his deep loyalty, unique passions, and a life lived with drive and purpose.
Dan was a talented and hardworking tradesman who successfully owned and operated his own welding business for 25 years, earning a reputation for his skilled craftsmanship and dependability. He later brought his lifelong mechanical talents to a fulfilling second career, serving proudly as the head mechanic at the Mark O'Meara Golf Course for 15 years. He was highly respected by his colleagues for his meticulous work ethic, problem-solving skills, and ability to keep the grounds equipment running flawlessly across the beautiful Muskoka landscape.
An unshakeable automotive enthusiast, Dan was also a passionate car collector who spent countless hours restoring and admiring classic vehicles. He was a familiar and welcome face at local and regional automotive flea markets, always hunting for that perfect, elusive part or trading stories with fellow car lovers who shared his appreciation for vintage steel.
When he wasn’t under the hood of a car, at the welding shop, or maintaining the fleet at the course, Dan could be found in the ring or at the kennel. He had a profound love for animals, specifically dedicating years to breeding and showing basset hounds. His patience, care, and expertise earned him immense respect within the dog show community, and the hounds he raised brought immeasurable joy to both his home and the families who adopted them.
To his family, Dan was a steady presence and a true friend. His passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his memory will live on every time a classic car revs its engine or a basset hound lets out a familiar bay.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Darlene Wilkinson, and his daughter, Laura. He was the cherished grandfather of Danielle, Casandra, and Ashley, and the proud great-grandfather of Grayson and Lilith. He is also survived by his loving siblings, Allan Wilkinson and Katherine Cercone (Wilkinson), and was a proud uncle to many nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by a wide community of friends in both the automotive and canine worlds. He was predeceased by his parents, Emerald and Verna Wilkinson.
A visitation to celebrate Dan’s life will be held on October 10th, 2026, from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m.at Billingsley Funeral Home, located at 430 Ravenscliffe Rd, Huntsville, Ontario. A private burial will follow the visitation. In honor of Dan’s life, the family suggests that donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary.
