Betty Louise Harris (nee Lockwood)

August 25, 1935 — January 21, 2026

Huntsville, Ontario

It is with extreme sadness that we said goodbye to Betty Louise Harris (nee Lockwood) who passed away peacefully at Huntsville District Memorial Hospital on January 21, 2026. Betty is survived by her spouse of 69 years, Franklin "Stuart" Harris, and her two children, Stephen Harris and Sandra Harris.

Betty was born in Bowmanville to parents Mary and Victor Lockwood and was the youngest of 5 children. She lived in the Oshawa area for over 45 years, raising her family in the hamlet of Mitchells' Corners. In 1960 Betty and Stuart built a cottage on Lake Waseosa just north of Huntsville where they spent most weekends and summers enjoying time with family: swimming, boating and skiing in the summer months, and snowmobiling in the winter months. In 1980, when Stuart retired from General Motors, they made the move north to live permanently at their place on Lake Waseosa, where their cottage had been transformed into a year-round home.

They made many friends in the Huntsville area, who among other things they enjoyed playing cards with and golfing with. Betty was also a huge supporter of her community. She was on the Board of Directors for many years of the Animal Shelter for Huntsville; she delivered Meals on Wheels for at least 15 years and was a longtime volunteer with the Auxiliary for the Huntsville hospital. She received her Lifetime volunteer award for her time with the Auxiliary, where she volunteered in the gift shop and helped on many fundraising projects for over 30 years.

Once retired to Huntsville, Betty and Stuart spent time each winter keeping warm by travelling to Panama City Beach, Florida. In the early years, they stayed in a beachside condo, then they purchased a fifth wheel trailer and started to stay in their trailer in the state parks around PCB, including Camp Helen. Not ones to sit idle, both Betty and Stu volunteered at the parks they stayed in - this allowed them to keep active, and to meet many new people, who became lifelong friends. They also did a lot of treks in their trailer to the east and west coasts of Canada, and up to Alaska and down to Mexico.

Betty was a strong, kindhearted and generous person, who will be missed by all that knew her. As per her wishes there will be no funeral service and cremation has taken place.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Betty can be made to the Huntsville Hospital Foundation, or to the Royal Victoria Health Centre - Cancer Program
