Obituary

Barbara Anne Coker (Branch) - May 22, 1947 – April 8, 2026

Barb passed away peacefully, surrounded by her immediate family at Huntsville Hospice, after a courageous fight with cancer.

Beloved wife of Carl Coker for over 45 years. Loving mother of Jennifer Flood (Tim Webb). Cherished and proud grandmother of Dylan Graham (Mylei) and Peter Webb (Anna). Stepmother to Walter Coker (Debi) and Tracy Coker. (Rick)

Barb leaves behind her favourite sister and best friend, Betty Widdifield (Bob), Bonnie Ashby (Lloyd) brother Ronald Branch. She was predeceased by her brothers Don Branch (Shirley) and Bill Branch (June)

Barb was born in Huntsville and raised on a farm four miles east of Novar on Savage Settlement Road. She received her education in Novar and Emsdale public schools, and later attended high school in Burks Falls and Huntsville. Barb learned early the value of hard work. After the passing of her father when she was just 15, she left school and began working at Steadman’s in Bracebridge. She later pursued a career in hairdressing in North Bay and spent many years working as a hairdresser in Huntsville.

Barb later shared seven years with Lloyd Flood, during which time they welcomed her beloved daughter, Jennifer Lynn. After their separation, Barb devoted herself to raising Jenn on her own.

She later met and married Carl Coker, and together they built a life in Huntsville filled with love, hard work, and service to others. Barb continued doing hair from her home while also babysitting many children, all of whom lovingly called her “Grandma Coker.” Barb and Carl also dedicated time to helping seniors in the community, forming many lasting friendships along the way.

In their early years together, they lived on a hobby farm where Barb truly thrived. She loved the animals dearly, naming each one, and never hesitated to head to the barn in the middle of the night if a cow was calving. She mastered milking by hand and took pride in all aspects of farm life—from feeding animals to collecting eggs and haying.

Barb was an incredible homemaker who loved cooking, baking, quilting, crafting, and pickling. Her butter tarts were unforgettable, and her homemade pickles were a favorite among family and friends. She was always ready to lend a helping hand and was often called upon for prayer—something she did with great strength and faith.

After the age of 55, Barb could be found out walking every single day. She loved the outdoors and, for a time, even fed up to 30 deer in her backyard. Together, Barb and Carl purchased and lovingly renovated several homes, putting their personal touch on each one before finally settling down after their eighth home.

Barb had a special love for yard sales, always on the lookout for treasures not only for herself but for others as well.

Later in life, after believing she might never have grandchildren of her own, Barb was overjoyed by the arrival of her grandson, Dylan, on November 14, 2005. He quickly became the light of her life—“Grandma’s little boy”—and she was in her glory, looking forward to sharing her love, faith, and teachings with him.

Barb will be remembered for her deep faith, her generous heart, her love of family, and her unwavering willingness to help others. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and devotion that will not be forgotten.

Visitation will take place at 1:00 p.m., with the funeral service to follow at 3:00 p.m., on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at Highview Baptist Church, 411 Highview Dr, Huntsville.  Refreshments to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Barb’s memory may be made to Huntsville Hospice.
