Adele Marion Switzer

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of their beloved mother, Adele Marion Switzer, on Monday, May 6, 2024, at Algonquin Grace Residential Hospice, Huntsville at the age of 88.  Adele was born on April 23, 1936, in Rye, Ontario to her loving parents Rosina (nee Kuehni) and Peter Holotuk, both predeceased. Beloved wife of the late George Charles Switzer for 65 years who predeceased Adele in December of 2020. Cherished mother of Jeffrey (Kate) and Jackie (Kirk).  Adored grandmother of Rory, Jessica, Teera, Ginny and Stephanie. Sister of Lewis predeceased (Mary), Gordon (Emily) both predeceased, Edna Genoe predeceased (dec. Fred), Ann Pinkerton (Alvin) both predeceased, Lillian Barton-Briggs (Harry, dec. Paul), Art predeceased (Gene), Dan (Grace) both predeceased, Allan predeceased (Florence), Rosalie Charbonneau predeceased (Gilles) and Steven predeceased (Vi).  Adele will be greatly missed by her many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends both near and far.

Since her diagnosis with vascular dementia about 3 years ago, we find ourselves finally saying goodbye to this very beautiful person. She was warm, loving, caring, so very strong and active, and came from a loving family of 11 siblings.  She was a wonderful friend and confidant to our large extended family and there was always good company and laughter.  Adele and George met and lived in Huntsville, Ontario, before moving out to the West Coast where George worked for the BC Hydro.  They spent many years raising Jeff and Jackie in Richmond Hill, Ontario, while Adele worked at Robert B. Summerville (Aecon) construction company as head payroll administrator.  Adele and George moved to Barrie for their retirement years, where Adele was very active in the Barrie community socializing with the Barrie Newcomers Club, and the Barrie Ski Bunny Club.  She was still skiing regularly up to the age of 85 and shared her passion with her family and grandchildren, although they found it a challenge to keep up.  She was a gracious hostess for all and spent lots of time in the kitchen making her legendary dinners and always a homemade dessert.  Adele and George spent most of their time up at the cottage that they built in the early ‘70’s on Skeleton Lake, near Bracebridge, where they would work constantly and effortlessly with her never-ending stamina.  All while hosting a constant stream of family and friends to share good times with, along with various activities of snowmobiling and gardening.

We want to thank the Hospice Huntsville for their kindness and support during Adele’s last few days that made such a difference in hers and our lives.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at Billingsley Funeral Home, 430 Ravenscliffe Road, Huntsville.  Reception to follow the memorial service.  Livestream will also be available through the funeral home website.  As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations can be made to the Hospice Huntsville.  Online condolences and memories may be left at https://www.billingsleyfuneralhome.com/.
